AI assistants

Connect an assistant

An AI assistant can build and manage your site for you. Use the Chat built into your admin panel, or connect your own assistant over the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Two ways to work with AI

Built-in Chat

An assistant inside your admin panel, under AI Features. You choose the AI provider and model.

Your own assistant over MCP

Any assistant that supports MCP connects to your project and gets the same tools as the built-in Chat.

Both work through your admin account and follow the same rules.

Use the built-in Chat

1

Open AI Configuration

In the admin panel, go to AI Features, then AI Configuration.

2

Add a provider key

Under Providers, enter the API Key for the provider you want to use.

3

Pick provider and model

Under Active Configuration, choose the provider and model, then click Save Configuration.

4

Start chatting

Go to AI Features, then Chat, and click New chat.

Until a provider, model and API key are set, Chat shows AI chat is not configured.

Connect your own assistant over MCP

Your project's API serves an MCP server over SSE (server-sent events). Add it to your assistant as a remote MCP server with these settings:

URL

Your project's API address followed by /sysAdmin/mcp/sse.

Transport

SSE. The assistant then sends its messages to /sysAdmin/mcp/messages on its own.

Authorization header

BearerAdmin, a space, then an admin session token.

Once connected, your assistant receives the list of tools, the platform's working instructions and the feature guides.

Accounts and sessions

The connection is tied to one admin account.

The assistant acts as the admin whose session token it uses. Every action runs with that admin's permissions.

The admin account must be active.

If that session is logged out or expires, the assistant can no longer connect or act. Connect again with a new session token.

Treat the token like a password. Anyone who has it can manage your site as that admin.

A safer setup

1

Create a dedicated admin

In Manage Sys Admin, use Create Sys Admin to add an admin account for your assistant.

2

Limit what it can reach

In Sys admin permissions, give that account only the screens the assistant needs.

3

Connect and start small

Ask it to list your pages or tables first, so you can see it is connected to the right project.

A separate admin account for your assistant also makes it clear, in each record, which changes the assistant made.
