Connect a domain whose DNS is managed in Cloudflare. Cloudflare can point the root of your domain with a CNAME, so both records are CNAMEs.

Open DNS
In the Cloudflare dashboard, select your domain and go to DNS, then Records.

Clean up
Delete any AAAA records, and any A or CNAME record that already exists for @ or www.

Add the root
Add a CNAME record with name @ and target your site's default address (it ends in .onrender.com and is shown on your domain page). Cloudflare flattens it, so it works for the root.

Add www
Add a CNAME record with name www and the same target.

Set both records to DNS only (the grey cloud). Verification and the HTTPS certificate need the records to answer directly. Once your domain shows as verified on your domain page, you can switch them to Proxied if you want Cloudflare in front of your site.
In SSL/TLS, Overview, set the encryption mode to Full. Other modes can cause redirect loops or certificate errors.
