Pages

SEO and social sharing

Control how each page appears in search results and in the preview card when someone shares its link.

Two levels of metadata

Your site has default metadata on the Theme & branding screen (System Configuration, Theme). Each page can override it on its own Metadata screen: open Pages, then choose Metadata in the page's row menu.

When a page leaves a field empty, the site-wide value is used. For example, a page with no OG image uses the OG image from the theme, and a page with no title uses the site title.

The page Metadata screen

Basic Information

Name, Slug

The page's unique name and its address.

Title

Up to 100 characters. Shown in the browser tab and in search results.

Description

Up to 155 characters. The summary shown in search results.

Favicon

An icon for this page only. Leave it empty to use the site's favicon.

SEO

Meta keywords

Up to 100 characters, comma separated.

OG title, OG description

The title and text of the preview card on social networks, up to 100 and 155 characters.

OG image

The preview picture. Use 1200x630 pixels, PNG or JPG.

Indexing and attribution

No Index

Asks search engines not to index the page, and leaves it out of your sitemap.

No Follow

Asks search engines not to follow the links on the page.

Author, Publisher

Who wrote and who publishes the page.

Twitter Handle, Twitter Site

The Twitter accounts credited in the page's preview card, without the @.

Click Modify Page Metadata to save. Your sitemap lists your active pages automatically, except pages with No Index and dynamic pages whose address contains a variable.

Save metadata after content

The order in which you save matters for a few metadata fields.

Every time you save a page's content with Update Page, its Favicon, Author, Publisher, No Index, No Follow and Twitter fields are reset. Title, description, slug, keywords, the OG fields and the menu and footer are kept. Set those fields after your last content change, and check them again whenever you edit the page.

Tips

A few habits that help your pages in search results and on social networks.

Write a different title and description for every page. Search results show them side by side.

Titles, descriptions and OG texts are translated like any other text: add them to each language's dictionary.

Private pages are still listed in the sitemap unless you turn on No Index for them.
